Its inspiration is Philip Larkin’s poem of the same name, which alludes to a glass of water ‘where any-angled light would congregate endlessly’. Scored for strings, flutes, keyboard, piano and two Indian tanpura, it takes the form of a continuous 15-minute movement.Premiered as part of the ACO’s UK tour in 2014, Water was an instant success, hailed for its ear-opening musical colours. Invece c'è stato A Moon Shaped Pool, un album di ottima fattura (non v'è dubbio), ma fatto di canzoni vecchie e vecchie idee riciclate (non v'è dubbio pure su questo). Allo stato attuale, lo zeitgeist di Thom Yorke e Jonny Greenwood si trova nei loro progetti solisti, non nei Radiohead; ed è un vero peccato, perché almeno per un ultima volta mi piacerebbe sentire da loro un disco come Kid A, in cui mettono dentro tutto quelli che li passa per la testa in quel momento, invece di regalare il meglio a Flea e Paul Thomas Anderson e poi trovarsi coi Radiohead a riesumare Skirting On The Surface, Cut A Hole, I Froze Up, Follow Me Around, ecc... La struttura dei pezzi di Thom sarebbero accettabili su un album Radiohead mentre la musica solista di Jonny e strumentale e difficilmente si presta ad essere cantato sopra. Personalmente accetterei un album Radiohead con pezzi strumentali di Jonny abbinate alle canzoni cantate di Thom. Come vorrei sentire la voce di Ed un po' più in evidenza e forse addirittura accetterei una composizione di Phil. Ma non so quanti altri sarebbero contenti di un tale album Radiohead. Effettivamente pensando a Harry Patch, Daydreaming e Glass Eyes (e anche Faust Arp, via)... Insomma il mio sogno è un disco dei Radiohead che frulli, Junun, Inherent Vice, Amok e Tomorrow's Modern Boxes: era il mio sogno per l'Lp9 e sarà il mio sogno anche per l'Lp10.
