CutToShreds
Ben fatto. Quello che a me ha lasciato perplesso è che:1) nel 2007 i Radiohead hanno fatto un esperimento interessantissimo con In Rainbows - ma hanno candidamente ammesso che ha funzionato per loro, ma non era replicabile2) la setimana scorsa Mr Yorke parla invece di esperimento in questi terminiIt's an experiment to see if the mechanics of the system are something that the general public can get its head around ...If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work.Enabling those people who make either music, video or any other kind of digital content to sell it themselves. If it works anyone can do this exactly as we have done.

Mongrel Cat
CutToShreds
Thom Yorke's BitTorrent bundle reaches 1.1m downloadsThe BitTorrent bundle release of Thom Yorke's Tomorrow's Modern Boxes is transparent in one metric: the number of times the bundle has been downloaded. This morning, it stands at 1.1m, which sounds like impressive reach. What's not being made public, for now, is how many of those downloads have converted into $6 purchases of the full album. Even a 10% conversion rate would mean $594k for Yorke after BitTorrent's cut. But this really is the key, because BitTorrent's appeal to artists rests heavily on the audience it can put their bundles in front of: a claimed 170m monthly active users and 40m daily active users. Sceptics are wondering how many of those people are based in countries where there's less appetite for Western music, and also how many of them are even that interested in music (and buying it) as opposed to films and TV shows. Countering those sceptics will require more stats beyond pure bundle downloads, although Yorke's stated aim of experimenting with the model for the benefit of other artists raises our hopes that he'll publish more useful figures at some point.Source: BitTorrent – http://tinyurl.com/nyljvl6
Mr. Wolf

Lacatus
@li
da gigwiseUpon the album's release a week ago Yorke explained he was looking for an “effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work. Enabling those people who make either music, video or any other kind of digital content to sell it themselves. Bypassing the self elected gate-keepers.”BitTorrent's Chief Content Officer, Matt Mason, recently spoke to The Fader about the release and what he hopes can come out of this experiment.Mason revealed that the idea of the BitTorrent bundle was in fact inspired by Radiohead’s pay-what-you-want model for their seventh album ‘In Rainbows’ and said: “It’s just been the absolute gold standard for how to do something direct-to-fan on the internet.”When the BitTorrent executive was introduced to Yorke and producer Nigel Godrich through Radiohead’s manager, the album was not completed. Mason explained "I don’t know if Thom would have made the album anyway, but he wasn’t planning on making a new album when we started talking to them. The idea of releasing something came out of the conversations that we had, which was, for us, incredibly humbling that they believed in this technology to the extent of actually making something especially for it.”Sizing up the competition, Mason went onto say that he believes BitTorrent offers more over similar companies such as Bandcamp. “Bandcamp’s great, they’ve done a fantastic job and I would never discourage anyone from putting anything on Bandcamp, but the difference between BitTorrent and every other direct-to-fan service is [that] we have a truly global audience that we can put Bundles in front of.”Indeed, BitTorrent’s audience is vast. The service reaches 170 million people each month, making it an audience larger than twice the combined audience of Spotify, Netflix, Hulu and BandCamp. http://www.gigwise.com/news/94854/thom-yorkes-tommorows-modern-boxes-downloaded-over-a-million-times
