Thom and I have spent a lot of time musing on how we get our generation tune into this defining issue of our time and raise our voices as well as engage directly. Thom’s played shows in Paris during the negotiation and supported Greenpeace for years. Ed has been a longtime supporter of environmental organizations and regularly posted about these challenges to the band’s fan base. I’m on the Board of Conservation International and have worked on a community based project in Kenya called the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust for over 15 years. As daunting and monolithic as the challenge feels at times, all you can do is keep doing what you can and trying to seize opportunities to do more. So we figured we’d try to raise support for this kind of work in a fun way. Kick in here to support these great organizations and we’ll pick one fan and fellow concerned citizen to bring a friend and come with me to see Radiohead at MSG. I’ve seen the band dozens of times all over the world and I can say without hesitation that shows at MSG are always in my ‘best ever’ list. Lì devono staccare alle 22:00 perché il parco dove suonano è nel cuore della città, quindi devono rispettare gli orari (spesso per suonare fino a tardi è necessario dover abbassare di diversi decibel, o addirittura non è neanche permesso - San Francisco è abbastanza fiscale su alcune cose). Non possono scegliere loro di iniziare prima, sono ad un festival, quindi sullo stesso palco prima di loro ci sono diversi gruppi. Nei festival purtroppo (o per fortuna, vedi Bonnaroo Festival, sempre generoso) devi rispettare le tempistiche che ti danno (poi anche lì dipende, in alcuni posti puoi sforare, in altri ti staccano la corrente ). All'Outside Lands Festival ti danno due ore, non mezzo secondo in più. Come ha scritto Max, il Golden Gate Park e' molto centrale, ed essendo il concerto all'aperto, devo staccare a una certa ora per motivi di ordine pubblico. Cosi' come all'Hard Rock Calling a Londra, centralissimo a Hyde Park, dove nel 2012 staccarano l'audio sul duetto Springsteen / McCartney! A Los Angeles, dove sto passando l'estate per lavoro, hanno iniziato il concerto alle 9.30 e finito alle 11.45 (essendo il concerto al chiuso), e ho anche faticato a trovare un Uber per tornare a casa! Il perché l'ha spiegato chiaramente Thom in un'intervista: l'han fatto per paura che, senza un tour di supporto, A Moon Shaped Pool potesse passare sotto silenzio come The King Of Limbs* *a riprova di ciò mi sta capitando spesso gente che pensa che A Moon Shaped Pool segua In Rainbows, ignorando che nel 2011 è uscito un altro disco (Al Re dei Rami toccherà la sorte di Anima Latina nella discografia di Battisti: un disco che nel periodo in cui era uscito non si era inculato nessuno).
