Houston iniziava col verso "If the storm doesn't kill me, the government will", mentre all'inizio della seconda strofa di Oh My Heart, si sente "The storm didn't killed me, the government changed". Roytoxicboy Posted March 8, 2011 Report Share Posted March 8, 2011 Beh che dire... Dopo tot ascolti confermo la mia prima impressione. E' un signor disco. Un capolavoro nel senso letterale del termine. Come se avessero deciso di fare un tour nei 30 anni della loro carriera. Si può dire che la loro storia musicale così ricca e variegata collassi nel presente in questi quaranta minuti. Certo non c'è nulla di nuovo e si ha un po' l'impressione di camminare in un museo delle cere ma trovo che certi momenti siano davvero irresistibili e scritti con maestria. Non riesco a non commuovermi quando sento "oh my heart" o "walk it back" come non riesco a non mettermi a ballare ascoltando "all the best" o "alligator aviator ecc"... Nessuna di queste canzoni sfugge a questa logica. Nemmeno "Blue" che sembra l'incrocio fra "country feedback" e "e-bow the letter" ma che rimane forse il momento più bello del disco perchè è la canzone che partendo dal passato riesce comunque a produrre qualcosa di diverso. Rimango un po' perplesso sulla produzione che secondo me comprime tutto rendendo i singoli suoni indistinti e in alcuni casi quasi inudibili (il caso più eclatante è la voce di Vedder in "it happened today" ma ci sono una miriade di suoni nascosti sparsi in tutte le canzoni). Stipe in un intervista parla proprio di un disco fatto di canzoni immediate ma da riscoprire ascolto dopo ascolto (e a questo proposito trovo molto azzeccata la conclusione che riprende "discoverer" quasi fosse un invito ad ascoltare da capo). L'idea è interessante ma mi pare che il risultato sia un po' frustrante (in "everyday is yours to win" mi fa incazzare che il coro di Mills rieccheggiato con la chitarra emerga praticamente solo alla fine... Penso: "ma cazzo è così bello! Perchè non l'hanno sfruttato?!?"). C'è da dire che questa scelta fa sì che l'unico momento in cui i suoni sono presentati chiaramente (il pianoforte e la voce di Patti Smith alla fine di Blue) emerga con una devastante purezza. Quasi come se quel momento fosse un respiro rimandato per tutto il disco.Insomma a me piace parecchio e non chiedevo nulla di meglio da questo disco. Sono curioso di vedere cosa combineranno ora: hanno dichiarato di non volere andare in tour (e questo lascia sperare che pubblichino un altro disco in tempi brevi... E magari dopo questo "riassunto delle puntate precendenti" cercheranno di fare qualcosa di davvero nuovo) e hanno pure esaurito il contratto con la warner. Il DVD, filmato da Vincent Moon e intitolato This is not a Show non è niente male. I due cd live rispecchiano le scalette di quelle 5 serate esclusive, con molte (all'epoca e non) unreleased e chicche come Letter Never Sent o Carnival Of Sorts. Davvero, un bel live. Il doppio cd è molto bello (come anche il booklet con i commenti di Peter), però a mio parere il DVD si basa troppo su riprese pseudo-originali a scapito del clima (di grande intimità col pubblico) di quelle 5 sere che Vincent Moon non è per niente riuscito a rappresentare. Tanto per dirne una, Disguised (la futura Supernatural Superserious) è presente nel doppio cd, ma per nulla nel dvd, quando invece è stata la canzone simbolo dei Working Rehearsals (e non solo perchè già mostrava le potenzialità da primo singolo).
